How To Utilize Hashtags and Tagging

The most effective way to attract attention to your account is most definitely through hashtags and tagging. These two features of Instagram allow you to draw in your current followers while simultaneously attracting new followers to your page. Therefore, these two are a must for the success and growth of your account.

Hashtags: it is safe to say that hashtags have essentially taken over our digital world. When you go to the search area of Instagram, there is a place to search “tags” which allows you to search for various hashtags and be directed towards photos that include those hashtags in their caption. Once you click on those hashtags, you will see all photos that include or relate to exactly what the hashtag is. It is as simple as clicking on #pizza and automatically being directed towards endless photos of pizza. I mean what could be better? I find it especially important to include a wide variety of hashtags in my captions. For instance, I have a set of hashtags that I use in every caption which include hashtags such as #theritebite, #food, #blog, #eat, #foodinstagram, #foodie and so on. Then, I add additional hashtags depending on what the photo that I am posting displays. For example, when posting a photo of chocolate chip cookies and milk from a restaurant named Willa Jean in New Orleans, I included hashtags such as #cookies, #dessert, #chocolatechip, #chocolatechipcookies, #milk, #nola, #neworleans, #nolaeats, #willajean. This allows me to make my hashtags unique to my picture. So my own piece of advice after this whole spiel: #be #successful #by #using #hashtags.

Tagging: tagging is yet another essential tool when posting on Instagram and trying to attract attention to your account. The options when tagging are endless...as long as it’s an Instagram account it can be tagged! You can tag a restaurant, another food blog, a friend, or whatever accounts you think will be interested in seeing your post. One of my main goals when tagging is to tag a restaurant or another food account that would hopefully want to repost my picture. That way, my picture can hopefully be featured on Instagram accounts other than just my own and gain even more attraction. So here is my advice: tag as many accounts as you want! The more the merrier.
